3D printing and the construction of the future

If something promises to revolutionize the construction sector in the near future, it is 3D printing. This begins to be used more frequently in different fields such as engineering, architecture, aerospace industry and even in medicine with the reproduction of replacements for organs. 3D printing and its application in construction is increasing every day, and it is no longer a mere exercise of imagination from a decade ago.

Now this same technology is being used by the construction company Van Wijnen and the architectural firm Houben/Van Mierlo, which have already developed houses in the Eidhoven municipality. But in addition to the Netherlands, in RussiaChina and the United States there are already other examples of constructions made with 3D printers. In Russia, the Apis Cor company has announced the construction with a 3D printer of a 38-square-meter house in just one day.

¿What is 3D printing?

3D printing is the manufacture of three-dimensional objects with the use of technologies that reproduce a concept, by superimposing materials of different nature. It was from 2003 that this technology experienced exponential growth.

The current process of 3D printing consists of the union of molecules with ultraviolet laser light, after which solid shapes are obtained.
